Description
I created this painting to honor the Bismarck-Mandan Civic Chorus, which I have been a member of for more than 20 years -- and all community choirs around the world. We are people from all walks of life who come together to share our love of choral music.
This particular piece contains parts of the music that our choir sang at our Spring 2019 concert, which was titled North Dakota Sings. It features the piece composed by our director, Dr. Tom Porter, "North Dakota Prairies." We have sung this beautiful composition in wonderful venues, including Carnegie Hall!
Many of the songs were based on the roots of our ancestors who settled in our state, Irish, German, Scandanavian primarily, which led me to depict the choir outdoors with North Dakota landscapes as their stage. Other songs in the program were patriotic, as I hint at with the American flag in one corner, and the North Dakota flag in the other.
